The University of Groningen in the Netherlands conducted a study that concluded that music affects your mood and state of mind, and the songs you listen to change the way you perceive emotions and the world around you.
90&9 is a nonprofit that “promotes healthy living through media and the performing arts.” That comes straight from our mission statement. We believe that the arts can heal you.
When youth decide to make unhealthy choices, it’s because they’re in a certain mood and state of mind. If music and the arts can change one’s mood and state of mind, doesn’t it make sense to use good, uplifting art to help these kids?
On the cdc.gov homepage it says:
“A nationwide survey of high school students in the United States found that 16% of students reported seriously considering suicide, 13% reported creating a plan, and 8% reporting trying to take their own life in the 12 months preceding the survey. Each year, approximately 157,000 youth between the ages of 10 and 24 are treated Emergency Departments across the U.S. for self-inflicted injuries.”
This isn’t just about kids who take their lives, it’s also about those who try to commit suicide, or make unhealthy choices. These suicide attempts could seriously alter their physical appearance and abilities and change their lives forever.
We want every teenager to have a long, happy, fulfilling life. And no matter who or where you are, it’s possible! If your mood is good, and you have a healthy state of mind, anything is possible.
The media we consume greatly affects the way we see the world. That’s why we at 90&9 create good art that uplifts and inspires.
Art alters our emotions. Emotions determine our choices.
Our choices determine what kind of life we live.
